Why every good woman needs a little muscle

Call me bias, call me what you wish, but I stand by my word when I say this - the female physique is much more attractive than any males will ever be. A woman's curves - those hips and a tiny waist just does it for me. No I am not a lesbian, but I appreciate a good body when I see one, which gets me on to today's post - 'Why every good woman needs a little muscle'.

I have always been concious of my body from a young age, ever since I starting developing curves of my own in fact. I was afraid, like many young girls of the extra bit of meat forming around the lower half of my body. But why? Was it because of the fact that I was turning into a woman finally, or was it because I began to compare myself to every other woman on this planet. Unfortunately it was the latter. I began to reject what was in front of me. It's only recently that I have started to view myself differently and it's all thanks to the gym, and the new ideal woman that has emerged in the media - the muscular but undeniably healthier female form.

I write a lot about women and health, as you may have noticed by now. It's something I feel both passionate about, and most importantly, enjoy writing about. The problem is, I see tonnes of women about these days who clearly have no idea about nutrition or what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle. Now I am not just talking about those overweight ones, but also they malnourished ones. By no means am I saying I am an expert, but what I do know is that it feels fantastic to be in control of what I eat and actually enjoy working out. An avid gym goer for many years, it's only recently that I decided to alter my routine slightly. Instead of using the standard machines that many women flock to in the gym (the treadmill, cross trainer etc.) alongside some light weights, I now work on building muscle primarily by participating in a variety of weight classes including the classic circuit and legs, bums and tums (LBT) classes. I tend to do these classes up to four times a week and have noticed a significant difference over the last few months. Not only do I look more toned, I am stronger too, something I could only once dream of!

Women with muscle was once considered taboo so to speak. It's only recently that women are starting to 'jump on the bandwagon', and that's all down to its popularity in the media.
 Clearly there are some women who overdo it (think Jodie Marsh), but there are a whole lot of women who do it well. Some of my favourites can be found on Instagram. I don't believe in aspiring to be like celebrities as they often have unachievable and unrealistic lifestyles, so to give you an idea of my #fitinspo I have listed five of my favourite people to follow on Instagram right now:

@cleaneats_kenzie

@michelle_lewin_
@lydiaemillen
@femalemotivation
@amandafinniee

These women sure know what they are doing in the gym and treat their bodies with respect, something all women should aspire to do. Remember when building muscle, it's still important to find that balance between eating right and working out. Don't get me wrong - it is not easy. It requires a lot of persistence but once you start to see the results, you will start to wonder what on earth you were doing before you discovered lifting! A word of advice - don't be afraid. Muscle isn't something that forms overnight and you aren't going to end up looking like popeye (yes I was worried about this too at first). Up your protein,
cut down on the carbs and work that ass off - you won't regret it.

Do you use weights at the gym? What do you think of women with muscle?

Tan Talk - St Tropez VS St Moriz

As the summer months draw to a close, I thought it would be fitting to post about one thing we all love and something we won't be seeing a lot of over the next couple of months; the sun. Now I must admit I used to love sitting in the sun and would often fry myself with the lowest factor tanning oil. It's only recently that I have started to take more care when sitting out in the sun. Everybody loves having a tan let's admit it (well if you're British anyway). There is just something about having a golden glow that makes you feel effortlessly sexy and able to conquer the world (or maybe that's just me).

I haven't actually sat in the sun much this year but I am going away this week to Turkey so I am sure I will make up for it then. I am certainly more careful now when it comes to exposing my skin. This was after a recent scare with one of my moles. I just don't think it is worth the risk nowadays especially with skin cancer being so common. Now if I feel like I am looking a bit pasty, I will resort to every girl's best friend, fake tan. Just a few handfuls of this can make you feel a whole lot better about your appearance. We have all been there, 10 minutes before we are about to leave the house for a night out and the tanning mitt is on attacking those ghostly looking thighs.

However it is not easy to know which tan is going to look the best. There are so many different tanning products to choose from. In this post I am going to be comparing two of my most frequently used tanning products, St Tropez and St Moriz, both completely different in price and effects but a very similar brand name. One of the first tanning products I ever purchased in fact was St Tropez, one of the higher end brands on the market after having a St Tropez spray tan for my prom. Yet this is not a product I would recommend to be honest if you're looking for an effective tanning product. I much prefer the cheaper rip off brand so to speak, St Moriz which has instant lasting effects for a mere fraction of the price.

They are mini!

VS St Moriz mousse
Which is now award winning and found in all drug stores

So let's compare. As you can see I have built up quite the collection of St Tropez products over the years. They are a huge tanning brand and can justify their expensive price tag therefore unlike St Moriz which is only just gaining recognition in some of the bigger drug stores such as Boots and Superdrug. They may not have as many products to choose from but there is no denying the impact St Moriz has had on the tanning industry. It works, it's affordable and I won't ever be looking elsewhere when I need to top up on my tan that's for sure.

Are you a tan lover? What are your favourite tanning products?

Sanctuary Spa | Bath Time Has Never Felt So Good

Following on from my previous blog post, in this post I will again be talking about bath products as winter isn't quite over yet and lets face it who doesn't love a good bath? A time to relax, put your feet up and let all your worries float away. I love a good soak and when I say a good soak, I literally mean an hour or five…

Now I understand that many of you will have your own ways of relaxing during bath time whether this is by using candles, soft music or just some of your own favourite bath time products. Today I will be sharing with you another one of my favourite beauty products used especially for that special time, this being Sanctuary Spa products. I'm sure many of you have heard of this brand, you can purchase their products in many leading department stores including Boots and Debenhams. I first got my hands on one of their lovely gift sets two Christmases ago and what a pleasant surprise it was. Not only are these products kind to the skin but they are also very indulgent (the name really says it all really). 'Take time for yourself' is a phrase used on all Sanctuary Spa products and this is exactly what we ladies need to be doing more!

Providing that Spa experience in the luxury of your own home, these prestigious products may seem a little overpriced at first but until you have tried them for yourself, don't be so quick to judge. I am now going to talk you through just a couple of the Sanctuary Spa products I own and love.

First off is this beautiful Body Butter which is priced at £9.20 and made from cocoa butter, shea butter, sweet almonds and of course that all important Vitamin E. This cream not only smells lovely, it gives your skin that extra needed moisturised boost. I tend to use this product mainly on dry areas including my elbows and the heels of my feet as I feel it is too good to use as an all over body moisturiser. Its non greasy formula sinks right into your skin giving your skin long lasting protection all day long. I think this is a gorgeous product and certainly one of my favourites from the Sanctuary Spa collection.

Second on my list is this Luxury Bath Float which smells absolutely divine! Its oriental fragrance will turn your bathroom into the ultimate relaxing retreat I assure you. Pour a small amount under the running hot tap and watch your bath fill will tons of luscious bubbles. Again enriched with Vitamin E this product leaves your skin feeling refreshed and nourished. I don't think you are able to purchase this product alone, however it does come in the Ultimate Body Revival gift set which a dear friend of mine bought for me when introducing me to these products. This gift set is priced at £20 and is well worth checking out if you want to try a collection of Sanctuary's pampering treats.

Next up we have the Sanctuary Spa Body Wash at £5.10 which of course also smells divine. Its a very fragrant product infused with essential oils and capsules of sesame oils and jojaba which help to exfoliate your skin leaving it feeling silky smooth and uplifted. I am a big lover of any product that helps to exfoliate the skin when achieving that flawless glowing look. This product therefore is a winner in my eyes and one I would definitely purchase time and time again as a day to day cleanser.

Finally we have the Sanctuary Spa Body Lotion which is priced at £5.50. This is a light moisturising body lotion which is made from ginger, jojoba and other sweet spices. A thick creamy product which leaves your skin feeling energised and warm, this is a great all round moisturiser that completes any spa day. Said to last 24 hours, this isn't a moisturiser I particularly would use as part of my skin regime, however it is very pleasant and delicate to the skin.
